So, I thought I would create the episode 6 discussion thread in hopes of resurrecting this alumni hangout. There are a few things I want to touch on quickly and I will add it here through editing.
Thoughts On The Season So Far:
From what I can see, iSurv1vor Japan has been a firecracker of a season. This is the first time I have ever seen so much heart from an entire cast. I really think that on any other season, even poor Yuubu would have fared really well against the majority of any other tribe. That is a testament to the strength of this cast. In my opinion, Yuubu will go down as the "Best worst tribe in iSurv1vor history".
It is pretty rare that people in an ORG are actually getting voted out for "legit Survivor reasons" round after round. Usually there would have been a heap of votes against people being inactive, one or two vendetta votes for something that happened in another series between two or more players, etc. Although there is some of that present in this game, it is miniscule and people are playing the game the way it should be.
So far, 8 players have left and so far we already have:
With so much going on in this game, it really is a shame that there isn't more buzz happening in here, but I guess I can see why Sandy; Kirin and the Prediction Writers are being tight-lipped about what is going on. With past cheating scandals and info leaking to players last season, it makes sense for them to want to protect the season - especially one where past players with ties to iS alums are involved. I just think there might be some more info (even some small tidbits) that could be divulged in these threads to keep the viewers interested instead of how little we have gotten, but that is the call of the hosts and I respect that.
Thoughts On The Scavenger Hunt:
NuKoji:
Firstly, WOW!!! What a fantastic effort. These guys made iS history and we got to see a lot of personality from these guys. This was a hard fought and well-deserved win.
Although I am hoping to see him go down in flames at some point in this game, I think the tribe owes a lot to Eric for that win. He was a beast and has been in most of the challenges from what I can see. Seeing him singing a duet with Nicole was actually pretty endearing and it was nice to see that side of a guy that a lot of people are claiming to be a bit of a douche.
Billy's push-up video was hilarious, thanks to his dog trying to hump him while he was prone. Another video of his that I enjoyed was the "Drunk History" video. To me, Billy always comes across as a no-nonsense, strictly business kind of guy with a tough exterior. It was kinda cool to see all of that peeled away with the help of our friend, Mr. Alcohol, and see a softer side of him.
How amazing is Debbie? I have a lot of respect for her and I find her very endearing. Her dedication to this game is so great to witness and she has a great sense of humour. If Debbie finally managed to get on the real Survivor, I would watch the shit out of that season. Why the hell has she not been cast yet?
I never use this word to describe anyone ever, but there is no word for Nicole other than adorable. Every single one of her videos was more adorable than the last. Her video of her struggling to build a pyramid of cards: adorable. Her awkward Spanish video: adorable. Her duet with Eric: You get the picture. She also scores more brownie points for finding the only South African flag.
I am too afraid to even comment on how awkward two of Ginny's video choices really were, but I know most of us were thinking it. I am proud of her for the efforts she made in this challenge, though, so kudos to her.
I must admit to being really disappointed in Kelman's roast. As a self-proclaimed funny-man of iSurv1vor, I expected some razor-sharp wit and stellar punch-line delivery from him. I feel that Kelman can do better than he has in a roast, as well as in this season in general so far.
There were some decent efforts from Cody and Chris in this challenge, but I don't really feel like they exuded a lot of personality TBH. I suspect they are trying to keep a low profile, which is smart gameplay, but is tedious to watch. Tis a shame, really
NuChikara:
I was really impressed by Tyler and his efforts to rally the troops and try to organise and coordinate the efforts of his tribe. He's been mostly lurking in the background for so long and I get a sense of frustration from him. Tyler also lead by example with a spectacular effort.
Jeffrey really grew on me in this challenge. So far, I did not really see much from him or hear about him at all, but he seems like a fun guy with a laid-back vibe about him. He was game for anything and you could tell he was having fun. From what I gather, he is kinda "just there" in terms of strategy, but he is really likable.
I get the feeling that Samantha was holding back a little. She has been a challenge beast so far and I think it is wise for her to have laid low this round. Her posts were kinda bland, but I know from what we have seen and heard that there is a lot more to her and her game.
I was sad to see so little of Craig. He has these flashes of brilliance and comes across as a fun guy, but then he fizzles out at times as well. His cinnamon challenge video started off well, but ended on a pretty weak footing. I hope this is not a sign of how his iS legacy will end.
Dodds and Aaron are/were a strange pair. They just seem really weird and awkward. Dodds kinda reminded me of a character that Will Forte would play in a comedy skit or cameo appearance in a sitcom. Aaron has been mostly invisible, but I get creepy vibes from him which is unfair of me to say, but I can't help it.
I really want to like Robbie, but he strikes me as someone who straddles the line between having a fun and larger-than-life personality and being overbearing and obnoxious. He also seems to be really catty beneath the surface. I can't quite put my finger on why, though. I don't dislike Robbie at this stage, but I am also not rushing to give him my MVP vote just yet. I hope he will grow on me.
Daniel tries really hard. You have to tip your hat to the guy for it, but I hope there is more to him than being the try-hard of the iS series. He is mildly fun, mildly enjoyable, etc. I liked him on old Saaki, but I don't really know where his head is at on NuChikara and really want to see what becomes of our plucky Alaskan.
Being the sit-out of the challenge, Sassy was really invisible this round. Given that the last few rounds have been "The Sassy Show", maybe this was the best way for her to hide from a looming target for a while.
I will have more thoughts later, but hopefully this gets the alumni flame rekindled again. Please weigh in with any thoughts and Prediction Writers, please feel free to point out anything I am missing

So far, 8 players have left and so far we already have:
- A memorable 1st bootee in Gabe
- The shocking early ouster of a universal fan-favorite (Jose)
- A player leaving with a sense of Redemption, despite an early exit (Vartevar)
- Possibly one of the biggest blindsides in recent iS history (Dylan)
With so much going on in this game, it really is a shame that there isn't more buzz happening in here, but I guess I can see why Sandy; Kirin and the Prediction Writers are being tight-lipped about what is going on.
